Jenya Zaytseva: “The quality most prized by British firms in Russian employees is versatility.”

Several hundred thousands of natives of Russia and the other CIS countries live and work in London. What do British firms value in Russian employees above all? We posed this question to Jenya Zaytseva, who works in the London personnel agency Red Square International.

They’ll forget about their own personal gain if they need to support the team or the company They’ll forget about their own personal gain if they need to support the team or the company

“The quality most prized by British firms in Russian employees is versatility. Why? Well, because English applicants are characterised by the following attitude: ‘I’ve chosen such and such a path through life, that is the reason I studied, I’ve done it all my life and it’s the only job I’ll do. If I’m an accountant, then I’ll only do the accounts. Anything beyond that is out of the question.’
Russians, however, are multitaskers, they’ll learn something new, they’ll develop some new sphere of activity, they’ll help someone else out… Russians have a stronger sense of team spirit, they will always support the team. They’ll forget about their own personal gain if they need to support the team or the company. For example, they can temporarily fill someone else’s role simply because their colleague is off sick. Russians are always willing to do that.”
