Trade Fair on the Achievements of the National Economy

Traditionally, the exhibition season in Berlin kicks off with the “Green Week”

It is unlikely that the famous heroes of Vera Mukhina’s “The Labourer and the Collective Farmer Girl” could have even dreamed about this:115 000 square meters of exhibition pavilions, 400 000 visitors, 1498 exhibitors from 57 countries — all gathered here at one of Berlin’s most important traditional winter events — the agriculture and food industry trade fair known as “International Green Week” which, this year, is being held for the 76th time.

Over these few days, Berlin’s exhibition centre Messe Berlin — where the trade fair is currently taking place — attracts industrialists, manufacturers, journalists, families with children and many others who are interested in agriculture and agricultural products.

The trade fair is thematically structured according to products, agricultural machinery, plant cultivation and animal husbandry which means that any visitor can easily find the appropriate exhibits, most of which can be handled, tried and bought right here at the fair.

“Green Week” demonstrates all the very best from all over the world: the tastiest milk, the healthiest sugar, the largest fish, the healthiest herbs, the most exotic flowers and the most thoroughbred animals.

Germany occupies the largest area in the regional section: each of the federal regions (lands) can show its typical products here: fish, vegetables, beer, wine, meat and bread.
Russia is not lagging far behind, either, and all the major items from all over the Russian Federation are represented at the fair: pickles from Stavropol, furs from Yakutia, wines from Krasnodar and so on. According to the Russian Minister of Agriculture Elena Skrynnik, who visited the fair, at the beginning of the “Green Week” Russian manufacturers had already signed contracts to the tune of 200 million Euro.

The animal husbandry section with its piglets, sheep, cows and other livestock pulled a huge number of visitors. Pets — birds, cats, dogs and aquarium fish — got their fair share of attention, too.

The organisers of “Green Week” paid particular attention to setting up all kinds of scientific seminars and conferences where specialists could share their experience and demonstrate the latest achievements in the field of ecologically clean manufacturing, waste recycling and other innovations for agriculture. Several experimental working groups from German Universities presented their findings alongside well-known specialists.

The organisers do not hide the fact that “Green Week” is a platform for interaction where everyone can find something interesting, intriguing and useful.

“Green Week” is so varied that having visited it you can say with certainty: “Round the World in just a few hours.”

In 2012, “Green Week” will take place from 20th to 29th of January.
